Our first “Destination Trip” in April of 2025 will be to Los Angeles, California! This opportunity will include traveling by plane (something new for many) which will save time, and provide more comfortable windows of travel-time, hopefully improving everyone’s overall experience. These “Destination Trips” will be more experiential - focusing on fun events, and aspects of music and the music industry not available in Wisconsin. The “Destination Trips” will be available to any/all MHS music students (including ensemble members, musician’s studio, and fundamentals/theory students). We are very excited about our students having these opportunities available, But we acknowledge cost will always be a factor. The Los Angeles trip will cost approximately $2400 per student. To help create access for any and all music students to participate, the music department is committed to offering more fundraising opportunities. Efforts will be made in three tiers: individual fundraising through the Music Boosters and personal efforts, group fundraising opportunities (participants each receive a share of the funds raised, and travel sponsorships wherein funds raised are applied directly to the trip, to help subsidize the cost for all MHS students.

Hello, McFarland Community! We are Ms. Bazans Sociology class and we are hoping to raise money for negative school lunch accounts through the K-12 district and support our fellow students. Currently, there is over -$1,200 throughout the district. We want to raise money to pay off these debts and support our friends who may be need a little extra help. We are hosting a bake sale at the high school during finals week, but are also hoping that our community would like to help support our endeavors by donating through Classmunity. Even $1 can help our journey to feed kids throughout our district. We are asking for your support in this goal. Any amount helps, and we thank you for your support!

Hope Squad is a peer to peer suicide prevention program at MHS. Hope Squad members are trained in recognizing the signs of suicide and are the eyes and ears of MHS. Hope Squad members have referred numerous students to MHS Student Services, suicide prevention resources and have saved lives. Their work is so important! With these funds, we will be able to provide activities, resources and fun to not only students and staff at MHS, but to visit our fellow Spartans in grades K-8 and promote mental wellness, inclusion and anti-bullying education. Your donation will also go towards wellness kits for each classroom, suicide hotline posters and cards, a mental health assembly, and more. Thank you for helping us spread HOPE!

The world is changing every day. I want our classroom libraries to change along with it. Books are a great way to open up doors for conversations and supporting a dialogue of what is happening in the world. Books offer a way for students to feel like they matter and are represented in their classroom. Books also offer insight into another person's worldview. It gives them a way to learn about their classmates in a different way. Through the pandemic, we prepared book bags for the students to pick up each week so they could keep reading even though they weren't in school. This is a great way for not only our class to have meaningful discussions, but homes in our community as well. Having these diverse options can truly benefit our small community.

I remember years ago, sitting on a classroom carpet with my kindergarten teacher, when it happened. My teacher had taught us strategies, tips and tricks and with her guidance and support from home, suddenly reading "clicked" for me! There on that carpet my strategies for reading came to life! I couldn't wait to get home to show my family! I am inspired by Kelly Livingston's "Bringing Families Together with Books and More!" project, and I know that her proposal could benefit the children of my kindergarten families! Children need so much exposure to text and most importantly text they are able to read fluently and independently. This means that having the appropriate books available for our young learners and their families is so important! Throughout the school year, I have sent home leveled book bags with each of my kindergarten readers! The books are read with families in the evening and the bags and books come back the next day. We have certainly worked hard to "grow readers"! This upcoming school year I will be adding a new component to our bags! A "Readers Response" for our kinder readers and families to reflect on what they have read. The response will be a bubblegum thought, "what stuck with you from your reading?" Was it a snap word you read? Did you find punctuation in your book? The possibilities are endless! To complete this family activity, it is so necessary to have the books they need to share available at the level they are independently reading at. I am looking to secure funds to add to my limited collection of books meeting readers at a more accelerated level. These students and I work on higher level comprehension strategies and word study. I would love to be able to provide my students with more of a selection to share how much they have "grown" as readers with their families!

On May 7th, we launched our third annual 7th grade Carnival! It's exciting and we know that this will be a memorable experience for our students. What We're Doing: Each 7th Grade ARRE time will be designing and planning a Carnival Booth for our last day of school. Students are earning points in class relating to parts of the ARRE Code (Achievement, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy). These points will be utilized to obtain tickets to play at the carnival booth. The more points earned, the more tickets to play at the booths, which means more opportunities to win raffle tickets for prizes. Each ARRE time is building their booth with a cause/charity in mind. We hope to raise money, which will be donated at the end of the Carnival. The booth that has the most attendees playing at their booth, will have the honor of getting the money raised donated to their cause of choice. Causes/Charities: Some of the causes/charities selected in the past by ARRE times include:McFarland Fire and Rescue, McFarland Food Pantry, Dane County Humane Society, Porchlight Inc., Team Seas (Ocean Conservancy), Occupaws, Team Trees, Make a Moment. Funds donated will go directly to one of the following: 1. Donation to a Charity (We hope to put 50% of our donations towards the winning charity) 2. Purchase of Booth Items (The goal of the booth is to tie into science and be as "green" as possible. If ARRE times can recycle 100% of their booth building items, they will get bonus points to play at the Carnival) 3. Purchase of raffle items (Since students are earning raffle tickets we need to buy raffle items for students so they can win prizes. We're thinking of gift cards, themed baskets, clothing/apparel etc.) 4. Any remaining money will go into their "grade-level" account, which will travel with them through 8th grade. Please consider donating if you are able. We would also love monetary donations, raffle prize donations (gift cards, themed baskets, small toys, services etc.) Donations can be made by Wednesday May 29 Keep reading for more info: New this year: 7th Grade students will participate in a 7th grade Community day. 7th graders will join our 1st grade friends for their literacy time. We will be working on strategies of how to be a good mentor and role model for our younger students. We will spend some time reading and connecting our school communities. We will then transition to groups around town where we will spend an hour working on projects. These projects within walking-distance include: IMMS Garden, Marking Storm Drains in conjunction with Ripple Effects, Trash Pick-Up, Resurfacing Egner Park playground with wood chips. The goal is to help our middle schoolers recognize the impact they can have on their community. We're looking for pledges to help support this work and donation to charities.

Connect, a student organization at MHS working to amplify student voice in the school and community, is partnering with the McFarland High School and Indian Mound Middle School social justice clubs to host their first ever Equity Picnic on Thursday, November 16th. This event will foster discussion between club members from a variety of social justice-oriented clubs at MHS and IMMS. The first-annual Equity Picnic will include time for student collaboration on year-long goals, the creation of a master calendar for equity-oriented events, breakout sessions about leadership development, and potentially a keynote speech from a local leader. In addition, students will be able to work in partnership with community groups involved in social justice work to communicate about their shared vision for McFarland. Connect is currently looking for any donations whatsoever — either from businesses or individuals — to help feed all attendees of the event and cover the cost of materials. We would love to partner with any business and include their logo as it represents their commitment towards equity work in our schools. In addition to the many MHS and IMMS social justice club members we anticipate taking part in the event, we also hope to have many staff and community members involved, including District- and Village Board Members, building administrators, members of the McFarland Equity Project, the leadership team from Natural Circles of Support, members of the Equity SPEAR team at MHS, and advisors to equity-oriented clubs at both buildings. If you would are able to make a monetary donation, please donate through this page. If you are an individual or business interested in helping to sponsor this event — or looking to donate food or materials — please reach out to our club advisor Mariel McAleer at mcaleem@mcfsd.org, club president Valery Vayserberg at vayserv@mcfsd.org, club event management coordinator Annabelle Chapman at chapmaa@mcfsd.org, or district Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Coordinator Brittany Brazzel at brazzeb@mcfsd.org. We would love to have your support to help our equity clubs create real change! If you are a community member interested in attending the event that is particularly involved in activism, social justice, or equity within schools, please reach out to the above contacts for more information on how to participate. Thank you so much for any and all support! The McFarland High School Volleyball team is currently conducting a fundraiser. The funds we raise will be used to help supplement the cost of equipment, team apparel, and other non-budgeted expenses. While our school district does an excellent job of recognizing the needs of our program, we still need to raise the funds necessary to off-set higher costs. So we are turning to our families, our friends, and our community for help. Please take 5 minutes and donate whatever you can; even the smallest donation makes a huge difference. Things we will use the money for: - Team backpacks and warm ups - Program t shirts and team apparel - In season events/team bonding/building activities - New equipment (tripod, boxes, ipad case) - Stat program and video review subscriptions Another way to help us would be to spread the word by sharing this request via social media, e-mail, and text messaging. It makes a difference and will help us create opportunities for all of our student-athletes. Thank you for your consideration! - McFarland Volleyball Program

Causes/Charities: Some of the causes/charities selected in the past by ARRE times include: McFarland Fire and Rescue, Dane County Humane Society, Porchlight Inc., Team Seas (Ocean Conservancy), Occupaws, Team Trees, Make a Moment. Funds donated will go directly to one of the following: 1. Donation to a Charity (We hope to put 50% of our donation towards the winning charity) 2. Any remaining money will go into their "grade-level" account, which will travel with them through 8th-12th grade as needed. Please consider donating if you are able. We would also love monetary donations, raffle prize donations (gift cards, themed baskets, small toys, services etc.) Donations can be made by Wednesday May 31, 2023

Eco Club is offering to collect pumpkins from McFarland residents and take them to the yard waste disposal. We are asking for a donation of $5/household to pick up your pumpkins and dispose of them. It is better for pumpkins to be composted as opposed to going to a landfill, in order to reduce greenhouse gases produced during decomposition in a landfill.

Girl Up is working to improve equity for female students, including menstrual equity. Menstruation is a basic biological process. High quality menstrual hygiene products should be available for students in the same way that toilet paper, paper towels, and soap are freely available to all students. Girl Up is raising money to purchase menstrual products to be available to students in restrooms at the high school.

The World Geography class at McFarland High School has been learning about the village of Tanongou, in Benin, Africa. We are working to raise $3000 to support education in the village by sponsoring scholarships for students to attend school and learn a skill. We are also hoping to help fund the cost of birth certificates so students may continue their education. In Benin, students must take a test after 6th grade to be admitted to the next level. In order to take the test, they need a birth certificate, or they are not allowed to continue their education. As many are born in the village, a birth certificate is costly to obtain and travel to the city is difficult. We know that education is the key to success, and we are grateful for the education that we have. Please help us to spread that knowledge around the world- It truly takes a village to help another!
