Girl Up is working to improve equity for female students, including menstrual equity. Menstruation is a basic biological process. High quality menstrual hygiene products should be available for students in the same way that toilet paper, paper towels, and soap are freely available to all students. Girl Up is raising money to purchase menstrual products to be available to students in restrooms at the high school.

We are hoping to secure funds to support the MHS Hope Squad (a peer to peer suicide prevention program) as well as be able to train all McFarland High School staff in suicide prevention. With these funds, our Hope Squad will be able to attend regional and national trainings and events, and be able to bring the knowledge and resources back to MHS. The Hope Squad will also be able to support suicide prevention and mental health awareness events both at our school and in the community. We want to end the stigma around mental health & make sure no Spartan feels they are on their own. Additionally, funds will also be spent on mental health resources for MHS students to utilize while at school. These include: anxiety and depression workbooks, sensory tools, as well as mental health and calming Ipad apps.

Every May, the Driftwood Creative Arts Anthology club at McFarland High School publishes an anthology of student creative work. Over the course of the school year, students submit poetry, short stories, personal essays, song lyrics, paintings, photography, drawings, and even doodles! The club collects, reviews, edits, and then designs the anthology for publication. This will be Driftwood's 17th year of publication. Driftwood Club members have also attended (and won awards at!) events such as the UW-Whitewater Creative Writing Festival as well as submitting to writing contests such as the Bennington College Young Writer's Awards and the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets annual student contest. However, publishing this unique, award-winning anthology and giving club members these amazing opportunities, comes at a cost. We are hoping to find community leaders who will support literacy and the arts at McFarland High School by becoming a Driftwood sponsor. There are 3 levels of support for Driftwood listed in the Rewards section of our campaign. Individual Sponsors and/or companies will be listed under our Driftwood Sponsors page at the beginning of the anthology and have the opportunity to include an advertisement for their company within the anthology. Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Happy Reading! - The Driftwood Staff Follow us on Instagram! @mcfdriftwood Visit our Website: https://sites.google.com/mcfsd.org/driftwood

Eco Club is offering to collect pumpkins from McFarland residents and take them to the yard waste disposal. We are asking for a donation of $5/household to pick up your pumpkins and dispose of them. It is better for pumpkins to be composted as opposed to going to a landfill, in order to reduce greenhouse gases produced during decomposition in a landfill.

The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art students, and solo artists to help cultivate global kindness by creating portraits for children around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as violence, war, extreme poverty, neglect, and/or loss of parents. The participants create these portraits to help children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well-being, and to provide a special childhood memory in the future. Since 2004 the Memory Project has created more than 130,000 portraits for children in 47 countries. I am honored to announce that our very own McFarland Art Students will be crafting portraits for the Memory Project! This year the McFarland High School Choir Department chose to present excerpts from nine Broadway musical shows as part of a Musical Cabaret! Actors were cast from choir members who volunteered to participate. Members of the PAC Pack came in to help with lighting, sound, set construction, and logistics. The MHS Production team of Paul Gregg, Brooke Hauser, and Patrick Fernan took Director duties. Nick Nyderek, Joe Hartson, and Ben Peterson provided musical accompaniment. Costumer Bernie Friedman and Lighting Designer Mike Tallman were also on board! Students were masked and socially distanced for rehearsals, and blocking and choreography maintain this distancing to the greatest extent possible. When it came time to film with our friends at WMCF, students were either be masked or filmed individually as scenes allowed in order to keep all students and the production team safe. Our district provided approved "clearmasks" which we painted to match students' skin tones. The project was daunting, and in a year where so little seemed possible this grew into so much! Even though the annual Cabaret is the choir's biggest fundraiser, Mr. Gregg decided this would be a presentation made available to as many as possible. The budget came to about half our usual musical budget, and we are relying on the donations of our community and supporters to help us meet the costs and (hopefully) provide some fundraising for the choir program next year. In May the choirs will record the curricular music we've worked on all year as part of a yearlong learning plan called "Service Music". Donations will also help the choir program hold their annual fall retreat.

Girl Up McFarland is hosting a campaign to raise money and awareness surrounding girls' education. Did you know that 131 million girls are out of school around the world? There are many reasons for this, a few being that parents do not want their children traveling long, dangerous routes. Many girls are targeted by government groups, or suffer from sexual violence, abduction, intimidation, and harassment on their way to school. Girl Up is doing a fundraiser to raise money for bicycles so girls can get to school more safely. For this fundraiser, members of the Girl Up club will participate in a bike/run event on Wednesday, Nov. 4th, in which donors have the opportunity to pledge money to participants for every mile biked or quarter mile run, or a flat rate donation. We are also happy to take donations on this site. The proceeds will go to a Girl Up campaign called SchoolCycle, that focuses on providing bikes so girls can access education and stay in school.

Each year the Bill Garvey Memorial Golf Outing raises money for the McFarland Education Foundation and McFarland Athletic Department. Due to the COVID pandemic, we’ve needed to restructure the way we can raise money for two amazing organizations. The money earned each year helps the MEF offer scholarships to hardworking seniors and grants to our district's teachers. The money raised supports equipment and uniform needs for our high school and middle school athletic teams, that go above and beyond our school’s budget. While we can’t golf together this year, we hope you will consider “chipping in” to support the students in our community. UPDATE 7/21/20: Due to our current situation, we have modified our sponsorship levels. We hope this time of uncertainty finds you well and thank you for supporting the MEF and McFarland Athletic Department. *Participant Golf Packages Include: One six-pack cooler bag, one divot tool, one towel, 1oz SPF 30 sunscreen, ball marker, two golf balls, 5 tees, 2 ball markers.

The World Geography class at McFarland High School has been learning about the village of Tanongou, in Benin, Africa. We are working to raise $3000 to support education in the village by sponsoring scholarships for students to attend school and learn a skill. We are also hoping to help fund the cost of birth certificates so students may continue their education. In Benin, students must take a test after 6th grade to be admitted to the next level. In order to take the test, they need a birth certificate, or they are not allowed to continue their education. As many are born in the village, a birth certificate is costly to obtain and travel to the city is difficult. We know that education is the key to success, and we are grateful for the education that we have. Please help us to spread that knowledge around the world- It truly takes a village to help another!

On November 9th, 10th and 11th at McFarland High School, near Madison, WI, will present “Guys & Dolls”. The funds gained from this campaign will help to pay for the professional musicians in the pit, the design and building of our set, the microphones and sound system, and the costumes for the show. On behalf of the parents, staff and students, I thank you for your support of the arts at McFarland High School. Your generosity allows for hundreds of students to participate in musical events of the highest quality despite severe budget cuts and economic challenges. Again, thank you for your support of the arts in McFarland. With 80% of our budget coming from fundraising, your generous financial support truly makes a difference!

The World Geography Class at McFarland High School is working to raise money to place solar panels in the village of Tanongou- located in Benin, West Africa. While we are used to the daily luxuries that electricity provides, such as lights, cellphones, technology, and stoves for cooking, the village of Tanongou has no electricity at all. Students who go to school all day are expected to contribute to their family's survival by helping in the home and fields after school. By the time they are able to study in the evening, it is too dark, making it near impossible to do so. Tanongou is also located near the largest game preserve and natural waterfall in Africa. The ability to get tourists to come off the path and into the village would promote economic tourism and give jobs to the people of the village. Having electricity would encourage tourists to stay in the village and provide all with a better way of life. Our goal of raising $2230 would allow us to place six solar panels in the village and change the lives of the people in Tanongou forever. Please help us change the world!
