About this campaign

The Renew, Expand, Tradition (RET) community capital campaign is a partnership between the Waunakee Community School District and the Waunakee Area Education Foundation to include synthetic turf and LED lighting in the renewal of "Warrior Stadium". The district has allocated funds to reshape the crown of the field, improve drainage, replace the existing turf, upgrade lighting and replace the scoreboard. The additional cost to include synthetic turf and LED lighting is approximately $900,000 which includes 1/2 the subsequent cost to replace the turf at the end of it useful life (10 to 12 years).

Natural turf is limited to 75 events or games per calendar year to maintain a usable surface. This limits the stadium's use to fall football events only as approximately 50 home scrimmages and games, for grades 7 through 12 leave the turf in disrepair.

Synthetic turf can handle over 250 events per year, opening the stadium for use in the spring and summer for the more than 1000 soccer players and 300+ lacrosse players in our community.

Physical education classes, band, lacrosse and others will be able to use the turf ILO sharing the gym when weather and wet natural turf would otherwise force them inside.

Warrior Stadium will be a host site for non-Waunakee playoff games, in multiple sports, generating revenue for local businesses before and after these events. Booster clubs will generate profits through concessions during the activities. The school district will collect rental revenue for hosting.

Upgrades to the stadium complement our excellent schools and parks in Waunakee. Visitors will take time to run errands and or shop locally. 1300 additional local youth will have access to a facility that is underused due to limitations of the natural turf.
