Festival Of Bands Donation Drive

by: Guy Gregg

Thank you for caring about the OCFSD Band Program & visiting our Classmunity! It is with great optimistic spirit that we celebrate the eventual return of Festival of Bands. Since we always pride ourselves on not charging admission to see your students, we rely on fundraisers like the Festival of Bands Bake Sale to help supplement the budget for the Elementary, Middle and High School Band Programs. We now will have had to cancel the last TWO Festival of Bands which has resulted in a loss of funds for all band programs! We also have had to use our budget for many unexpected things this year including PPE, Technology, Equipment, Instruments, and Lessons. Covid-19 has also contributed to very necessary fundraising disappearing since March, like Marching Band Competitions, Fiserv Forum Stands, and public events. Please enjoy our Virtual FOB MARATHON (9:30am - 7pm) & CLASS OF 2021 FOB CONCERT (7pm) on Saturday January 16th, and please consider donating - as we hope to have $10,000 to split equally between the entire 5-12 OCFSD Band Program. Please remember that the % processing fee should be included in your donation. Thank you so much! https://youtu.be/ifNV8_mIGCI

FIRST LEGO League Carolinas Invitational

by: Liz Reck

Oak Creek-Franklin West Middle School’s 8th Grade FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Team 38663 Outrageous Creators has earned the honor of representing Wisconsin at the Carolinas Open Invitational robotics tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC, May 6 - May 9. The 48 team international competition will feature teams from 28 states and 16 countries. Three hundred sixty-one teams competed in the FLL City Shaper challenge in Wisconsin this year, progressing through a series of regional and sectional qualifying tournaments, with the top 36 teams advancing to the state championship. Each FLL team designed, built, and programmed a fully autonomous LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot to compete in the robot game and also worked to identify a problem in their community, develop a unique problem solution, and craft a creative presentation to showcase their work. Team 38663 Outrageous Creators identified a problem with a lack of safe, inclusive play space at Oak Creek middle schools and worked with local and national experts to create a design for an all-inclusive sensory playground at East Middle School. The team shared their ideas with school district administrators, school board members, and members of the Oak Creek community. Whether they are designing the robot, developing their project, mentoring younger FLL students at West, or competing at an event, Team 38663 Outrageous Creators always keeps the FLL core values of inclusion, innovation, impact, discovery, teamwork and fun at the heart of everything they do. Team 38663 Outrageous Creators is raising funds for the four-day trip to Myrtle Beach. We estimate that the team will need approximately $10,000 to send students, coaches, and chaperones to the event. Costs include tournament registration, airfare, lodging, food, team shirts and project supplies. Please help the Outrageous Creators participate in a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity that they will remember forever.

Learning How To Read!

My students need books! About My Students: A small suburb school making a HUGE difference! In just my class, 11 different languages are spoken, including Arabic, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and more, BUT all my students are eager to learn and communicate through books! Your donation to my incredibly diverse students will help their reading skills improve and help their English language grow. Thank you in advanced for your contribution! My Project: These books will complete our new literacy program this year! Not only will the books expose my students to various genres, they will also learn multiple comprehension and decoding strategies AND it will all be done while HAVING FUN! Help encourage a love of reading for my Kindergartners! I began this program to see how my students' reading can improve. Only a few weeks in, and I can already see a HUGE change in my readers. They are interested in the books and are EAGER to learn more! Completing the collection of this reading program will continue to inspire that love of reading in my young learners.

Playworks at Cedar Hills!

by: Keith Ruffolo

Cedar Hills Elementary would like to partner with the company, Playworks, to help improve our recess systems and structures to continue to improve student engagement and academic success! The donations provided toward this campaign will help fund the Playworks Team Up program. This level of support would provide a Playworks site coordinator for one week a month for the entire school year. The Playworks site coordinator would be responsible for working with and building the capacity of our recess team to create systems, structures, supervision, and conflict resolution strategies to use with students during recess to increase engagement, safety, and inclusive games. The rationale for this program is that for the past 4 years our office referral data has shown that recess referrals make up for roughly half of our total referrals. Also, this program supports our school district's strategic goals in areas of academics, continuous improvement, and social-emotional learning. The systems and strategies will result in less time transitioning from recess, increased student engagement in recess, decrease learning time lost by the classroom teacher solving minor recess conflicts or administration needing work on more serious safety concerns at recess. The total cost of the Team Up program is $22,000. We have partnered with Oak Creek Foundation to match funds raised up to $7,000.

Invest in Making EMS the Best!

by: Sue Thompson

The East Middle School Student Council is working hard this year to raise money in a meaningful way that will give back to the school and the amazing kids that attend each and every day. Instead of stressing our families out by having students go door to door selling items, or asking families to buy items they may not want or need... We are asking for a $10 donation from the East Middle School families and beyond to help make EMS Student Council’s goals and dreams come to life this school year. EMS Student Council needs your help to achieve the following goals for the 2019-2020 school year: 1. Provide student leadership development opportunities throughout the school year 2. Provide 2 water bottle filling stations at EMS 3. Provide a FREE promotion celebration for all 8th-grade students Please see a list below of additional helpful ways your donations will provide the best experience for ALL students at East Middle School. Thank you so much for supporting our school community! *Summer Reading Club Materials *Monthly Activity Nights Supplies *Winter Formal Dance Supplies *Ability to offer more opportunities for student leadership

Community Worker Appreciation Project Image

Community Worker Appreciation Project

by: Coryn Bauer

Hello, everyone! We are the 2nd grade teachers at Cedar Hills, Ms. Bauer, Mrs. Breznik and Ms. Weisbrod, and we are extremely excited to begin this project. Students in 2nd grade learn all about workers in our community, including Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Teachers, Public Works employees, Librarians, Postal Workers, and City Hall employees. Through our learning, our students discover the essential role community workers have in making Oak Creek a remarkable city. Our students want to thank our community workers for their hard work and commitment. We would like our students to make yard signs for departments in our community. Students will plan, design, and create a sign that shows gratitude for a department like police officers or fire fighters. Then, our students' designs will be professionally printed on corrugated plastic yard signs by a local business. Finally, we will take a field trip to each department in Oak Creek to hand deliver, meet the workers, and display our signs in front of their buildings for the city to see! This campaign makes students' yard signs 'come to life' by getting them professionally printed in order to present and display them outside at the various departments. This project empowers our students to make a difference and to be a positive force in our community. Thank you for supporting this incredible learning experience for our amazing group of 2nd graders!!

Care Packages for Soldiers Image

Care Packages for Soldiers

by: Whitney Paige

Hello everyone, We are the fourth grade teachers at Cedar Hills, Mrs. Paige and Ms. Blaha, and we are very excited about this project! My brother, Trent (Mrs. Paige's brother), was recently deployed overseas for what is looking like at least a year. As the first lieutenant of his platoon, my brother wanted to establish a connection with his men and our fourth grade classes. He brought all of his soldiers to Cedar Hills at the end of last year so that they could meet all of the future fourth graders. They did some getting to know you activities together and began building relationships. Now that those students are in fourth grade, they have the opportunity to be pen pals with his soldiers. Letters will be going back and forth between the soldiers and the students. As it gets closer to the holidays, we know it will be difficult for the soldiers to be away from home. We would like to have students create care packages for the soldiers filled with some essentials and some of their favorite things. We would like to use the money to be able to send those care packages to the soldiers. It is crucial to let soldiers know that they are cared for and thought about while they are gone! We know that this project will make a huge difference and we would greatly appreciate the help! Thank you, Mrs. Paige and Ms. Blaha
