About this fundraiser

Connect, a student organization at MHS working to amplify student voice in the school and community, is partnering with the McFarland High School and Indian Mound Middle School social justice clubs to host their first ever Equity Picnic on Thursday, November 16th. This event will foster discussion between club members from a variety of social justice-oriented clubs at MHS and IMMS.

The first-annual Equity Picnic will include time for student collaboration on year-long goals, the creation of a master calendar for equity-oriented events, breakout sessions about leadership development, and potentially a keynote speech from a local leader. In addition, students will be able to work in partnership with community groups involved in social justice work to communicate about their shared vision for McFarland.

Connect is currently looking for any donations whatsoever — either from businesses or individuals — to help feed all attendees of the event and cover the cost of materials. We would love to partner with any business and include their logo as it represents their commitment towards equity work in our schools. In addition to the many MHS and IMMS social justice club members we anticipate taking part in the event, we also hope to have many staff and community members involved, including District- and Village Board Members, building administrators, members of the McFarland Equity Project, the leadership team from Natural Circles of Support, members of the Equity SPEAR team at MHS, and advisors to equity-oriented clubs at both buildings.

If you would are able to make a monetary donation, please donate through this page. If you are an individual or business interested in helping to sponsor this event — or looking to donate food or materials — please reach out to our club advisor Mariel McAleer at mcaleem@mcfsd.org, club president Valery Vayserberg at vayserv@mcfsd.org, club event management coordinator Annabelle Chapman at chapmaa@mcfsd.org, or district Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Coordinator Brittany Brazzel at brazzeb@mcfsd.org. We would love to have your support to help our equity clubs create real change!

If you are a community member interested in attending the event that is particularly involved in activism, social justice, or equity within schools, please reach out to the above contacts for more information on how to participate. Thank you so much for any and all support!
