THIS AMOUNT SHOULD MATCH WHAT YOU ENTERED ON THE GOOGLE FORM. Cushing families: It's hard to believe that it's already the time of year again where we want to say THANK YOU to our teachers and staff! They have worked tirelessly to make the transition back to school year a smooth one, and they have succeeded. Their dedication both in person and virtually is outstanding. The PTO is offering a Holiday Season Gift Card Program to say "Thank You & Happy Holidays" to all of our Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. Participation is optional. Here’s how the program works: You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift. This is a 2 STEP PROCESS: STEP 1: Please make sure to complete your family name (EXAMPLE: SMITH FAMILY) then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.). Then total up your order. STEP 2: Click on the CLASSMUNITY LINK to pay your total with a debit/credit card. These orders will be compiled and gift cards will be distributed to each individual. THIS AMOUNT SHOULD MATCH WHAT YOU ENTERED ON THE GOOGLE FORM. Any amount is appreciated. Cushing Staff Rocks! Cushing's seventh annual Decathlon will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. This fun-filled field day is a great community-building event and Cushing’s largest yearly fundraiser. It allows our Cushing PTO to work collaboratively with teachers and staff throughout the year to fund meaningful efforts that impact all Cushing students. The Decathlon challenges students to tackle 10 fun events, and they will raise funds through pledges for their efforts. Some of the events include: bowling, hula hoop, and relay races, to name a few. 4K will have a special course of their own! The Decathlon will be held during the school day, and parents will help volunteer to make the event a success!

Cushing Elementary is breaking ground on our first community garden! The process began with the fourth graders exploring different sites on the school grounds to determine the best location for the garden. Thinking of the needs of the plants, they settled on just north of the main parking lot by the pine trees and the hill. The fourth and fifth graders then drew proposed garden designs for the site. After fourth and fifth graders narrowed down the designs by voting, two designs were then voted on by the school to choose the final one. John Gifford has built two of the garden beds with his math group and the other two were built by Matthew Fischer with the assistance of a Girl Scout troop. To date, supplies for this have been funded by the Girl Scout troop and the Cushing PTO. This garden is going to support curriculum in many academic areas at all grade levels. In fourth and fifth grade, the students are studying plant and animal structures that allow them to thrive and survive. Our future needs include: a fence to keep out the deer and rabbits, student designed rain barrels, a compost bin and supplies to build the remaining garden beds next year. Any donations of equipment, human power, and monetary donations will be much appreciated. Let us shoot for the stars and get together for a Cushing Farmers Market sometime in the future. Questions regarding the Cushing Community Garden can be directed to Mr. Last at lasta@kmsd.edu.
