Community Candles (20th Anniversary) Image

Community Candles (20th Anniversary)

by: Elizabeh King

This year marks the 20th year of Community Candles. Community Candles is a long-standing program sponsored by Lincoln’s Academic and Career Planning Center which raises funds to provide gifts to Lincoln students whose families are experiencing financial difficulties that have an impact on the ability to give holiday gifts in their homes. Last year, Community Candles served 86 students with a holiday gift. We appreciate the support from Lincoln sports teams, clubs, organizations, as well as LHS staff, WRPS staff and community members. For any donation of $25 or more, a candle with the donor's name will be on display in the student gathering space inside Lincoln High School. A candle for each $25 increment donation will be put on display. $50.00 = 2 candles, $100= 4 candles, etc. If you have any questions, please email elizabeth.king@wrps.net. Thank you for your support!

Community Candles

Community Candles is a Lincoln High School program that has been providing support to LHS families during the holiday season for the past 19 years. LHS students who live in households experiencing financial challenges are given a small gift so they can still enjoy receiving a gift during the holiday season. Last year’s campaign raised enough funds to provide a holiday gift to 82 LHS students! Historically, LHS student clubs, teams, and faculty have donated all of the funds to make this program possible. Because of the pandemic in 2020, we adjusted the fundraiser to an online format and reached out to the community for help. With last year’s great success, thanks to the generosity of our school and community, we are hoping to reach our fundraising goal again this year, but we need your help! This year’s goal is to raise $2,500.00 in just 7 days!

Outdoor Play Learning Activity Center @Woodside Image

Outdoor Play Learning Activity Center @Woodside

by: Julie Kolarik

The Outdoor Play, Learning, Activity Center (OPLAC) will be designed to increase outdoor opportunities for students with and without disabilities to play and learn alongside one another, as well as create a welcoming place for families beyond the school day. Though the initial impact will be to that of our students, this facility is sure to be one in which community members of all abilities will enjoy in multiple ways outside of the school day. It will be a place where practicing problem solving and taking turns, engaging in safe risk taking, and developing motor skills will occur, but even more special; developing friendships and making memories that last a lifetime. As people of varying abilities and backgrounds engage with one another we will become an even stronger, supportive community. The addition of pickleball courts in the second phase of the project will be an enhancement for all in our community to enjoy for many years to come! I am so thankful for the time and talents of all our Lumberjacks, as our students and families are the inspiration for this project and our staff are the driving force behind it. This beautiful school and community facility would also not be possible without the generous support and forward thinking of the Legacy Foundation of Central Wisconsin, our Board of Education, and Superintendent Craig Broeren. The first phase of the overall $1.7 million project will cost $1.5 million. Thankfully the majority of this expense will be funded through a very generous $1.2 million grant from the Legacy Foundation of Central Wisconsin. The remaining $300,000 balance is what we are hoping to raise between now and spring of 2023 to help offset the District’s portion of the project. The new main play and activity centers are outlined in thick red in the picture. We plan to have those main play and activity centers ready to be used for the 2023-24 school year! The second phase of the project will cost approximately $200,000 more and includes the addition of an outdoor classroom/activity area and the installation of pickleball courts for all in our community to enjoy. The second phase is outlined in light red in the picture. The more we are able to raise, the closer we will be to meeting our goal to complete both project phases. I hope you see the value in our OPLAC not only for our students, but our entire community now and well into the future, and choose to become involved! Yours in Partnership, Julie Kolarik, Principal Woodside Pride!
