Throughout the years, athletics and activities in Monona Grove have served to build a more unified community. In November 2018, MGSD residents passed a facilities referendum that included important safety and use updates to the track and athletic field at MGHS. Since then, MGSD and Point of Beginning have been engaged in further long-range planning for additional improvements to the facility. Our goal is to improve and increase programming and to improve overall site functionality for all students. With community involvement and support, we are confident that improving the complex will provide benefits for student participation in sports and activities, physical education classes, youth programs, and community use.
The planned upgrades to the athletic complex include:
-Synthetic turf, multi-purpose track and events (paid for by MGSD through referendum and other funds)
-New plaza, entryway, and ticket booth
-Expanded bleachers and press box
-New storage building
-New synthetic turf multi-purpose practice field
- New and relocated field events
-New tennis courts
Students, athletes, and the community will be able to use the two (2) new synthetic turf play surfaces in ways that are not available right now. Weather / field damage and unavailable green space will no longer be an issue. These fields will be available for: youth sports, baseball, football, softball, community use, dance, soccer, band, physical education classes, track, and more.
The total project cost for Phase 1 is $5.4 million. The cost for Phase 2 is $900,000.
