About this fundraiser

The World Geography Class at McFarland High School is working to raise money to place solar panels in the village of Tanongou- located in Benin, West Africa. While we are used to the daily luxuries that electricity provides, such as lights, cellphones, technology, and stoves for cooking, the village of Tanongou has no electricity at all. Students who go to school all day are expected to contribute to their family's survival by helping in the home and fields after school. By the time they are able to study in the evening, it is too dark, making it near impossible to do so.

Tanongou is also located near the largest game preserve and natural waterfall in Africa. The ability to get tourists to come off the path and into the village would promote economic tourism and give jobs to the people of the village. Having electricity would encourage tourists to stay in the village and provide all with a better way of life. Our goal of raising $2230 would allow us to place six solar panels in the village and change the lives of the people in Tanongou forever.

Please help us change the world!

Campaign updates

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has already donated or help share our Classmunity page! The students have been working hard at school as well with a bake sale, selling cinnamon rolls and speaking to the 6th grade class to share their project and how to get involved. We are almost there!
