KM Habitat Restoration Image

KM Habitat Restoration

by: Andrew Ksobiech

Before the habitat was destroyed it was home to Virginia Creepers and Wood Anemones. To bring back the once-thriving habitat, we plan to plant low-lying plants and transport sections of plants from other local areas into the new habitat. As a team, we also want to inform our peers on the topic of habitat destruction and encourage them to help. In an effort to fund the materials needed to replant the garden, we are asking for donations and for the project to be a community effort. When someone donates to help fund plants, seeds, and tools, they will receive a sticker as a reward for their efforts. We plan to design the custom stickers and use the school's resources to produce them. In the spring of 2025, we will start to replant the low-lying bush plants that once grew in that habitat.

Fundraiser for National History Day National Competition

by: Sara Otto

Three Kettle Moraine students were named state champions at Saturday’s National History Day (NHD) competition held at UW–Madison. They will now advance to the national contest in June, where they will present their research alongside students from across the U.S. and around the world. Recently, the NHD program experienced unexpected financial challenges due to cancelled grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. This means schools must fundraise to participate in the valuable academic competition. Sixth graders Cecilia H. and Reagan H. earned top honors for their website, Balancing Individual Rights and Shared Responsibilities in a Democratic Society, which explored the history of Social Security. HS^2 junior Emma Manion won first place for her individual performance titled, Ada Deer: Rights and Responsibilities in the Pursuit of Restoration of the Menominee Indian Tribe. Each year, approximately 500,000 students participate in NHD, including 10,000 from Wisconsin. This achievement is a tremendous honor for both the students and the Kettle Moraine School District. The cost for each student to attend the national event—held at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus—is significant. Registration is approximately $165, with lodging and meals totaling around $606. Travel expenses add another $600 per student.

Austin was known for his genuine heart, strong work ethic, and ability to make everyone around him feel valued and appreciated. His warm smile, infectious laughter, and unwavering loyalty made a lasting impression on all who knew him. Always ready to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement, Austin made a difference in countless lives. KM Wrestling 2025 donation "FUN"raiser

by: Andrew Ksobiech

Dear Prospective Kettle Moraine Wrestling Sponsor, We would like to thank you in advance for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this and consider our needs. In an effort to not put an extra burden on the wrestlers, we are moving away from a traditional Fundraiser where each family is asked to sell, collect money, and deliver goods. The beauty of this Fundraiser, 100% of the funds collected will directly impact the wrestling team. In an effort to increase the experience for the wrestlers we are raising money so that we will be able to travel to an overnight wrestling tournament. Additional funds will also be used to purchase CHAMPIONSHIP singlets for the Boys and Girls team. We are looking for new and exciting ways to grow our team, we believe raising these funds will help us provide a fulfilling and rewarding experience for the wrestling team. We thank you for your consideration and support, without your support we would not have the opportunity your generosity has afforded us. If you could please spread the link about our fundraiser by sharing it with friends and relatives via Facebook, Instagram, Text, and Email we would greatly appreciate it! The team has been working hard to properly represent this great school and community. Coach Patenaude

Irene Clewell Memorial - Donations to Students in Need

by: Jeremy Struss

Irene Clewell served as a secretary in many of the schools that make up the Kettle Moraine School District. In November of 1965, she started working at Cushing Elementary while her three children were in classes there. One of her duties at that time was to sell school lunch tickets. She saw firsthand that some students didn’t have lunches and was aware that often there were those without pencils or notebooks for basic class work. Moving to various grade schools, the high school, district offices, and then the middle school, Irene worked for KM for 31 years. She truly enjoyed her work with the principals, teachers, and her fellow secretaries. During her tenure, she was dedicated to the effective functioning of the local schools, contributing her skills to help make a difference for the students. Her family thanks you for helping continue that spirit of contribution and service to education by donating to the KM Kids in Need fund. You can donate by credit or debit card above or checks can be made to: Kettle Moraine School District (memo: Irene Clewell) Mail to: Kettle Moraine District Office Attn: Jeremy Struss 563 A.J. The students connect monthly through Best Buddies parties, school events such as football games, school dances, musicals and basketball games to name a few. They participate in the Best Buddies Friendship walk together, Best Buddies dances, Night to Shine, Trick or Treating and various other off campus activities. Through these experiences students have grown emotionally and have shown positive growth in communication and developing self advocacy skills with their peers. Step Up To The Plate Image

Step Up To The Plate

by: Mike Fink

In 2018, a group of committed baseball parents, coaches and supporters came together around an ambitious vision: to create a baseball complex that will foster community growth while allowing players of all ages to develop their skills in a safe, functional and fan-friendly environment. Kettle Moraine High School, the Kettle Moraine Jr. Laser Baseball Club and additional community teams currently utilize the four fields at Wales Community Park. The goal of the Step Up to the Plate project is to transform these existing fields into a baseball complex that will successfully service all groups. Key players in this initiative are: the Step Up to the Plate Committee comprised of volunteers representing all ages of the Kettle Moraine Baseball Program, the Kettle Moraine School District, and the Village of Wales employees who work closely with Wales Community Park. There are many current challenges presented by the fields at Wales Community Park. Kettle Moraine High School's move to Spring baseball in 2019 makes it imperative that enhancements are made to the existing complex. Current project plans call for construction to be completed in two phases. Phase I is scheduled for Spring 2018. It will include improvements to the Varsity field's fencing, dugouts, bullpens, batting cage and sound system. The Kettle Moraine School District's commitment is to upgrade infield dirt on the JV and Varsity fields, improve the warning track on the Varsity field, and assist with rebuilding bullpens on the Varsity field. Phase II is scheduled for Fall 2018. It includes installing artificial turf infield on the Varsity field, improving drainage on the Varsity and JV fields, improving spectator seating, installing electronic locks and cameras, and making functional improvements to ball field areas. The Kettle Moraine School District's commitment is to provide improved drainage, install concrete for bleachers and other areas needed, connect to the school district's fiber network for key cards and surveillance cameras, and provide engineering and professional services. In addition to the Kettle Moraine School District's commitment, community donations are needed to help make this project a reality. Please consider donating online or mailing a check payable to KM Booster Club to: KM Step Up to the Plate Campaign 349 N. Oak Crest Dr. Wales, WI 53183 Thank you for your support!

Magee Environmental Education Experience Image

Magee Environmental Education Experience

by: Melinda Mueller

Magee Elementary has had a long tradition of preserving the natural landscape on its 20 acre campus. We are fortunate to have an active prairie which we maintain through brush cutting and periodic burning. In addition, we have an oak savanna habitat that we manage by removing buckthorn and honeysuckle during our annual Earth Day celebration. Managing an area for invasive species is a long and arduous process. Invasive species are specialists in propagating quickly, as well as sprouting quickly from living roots after being cut down. To maintain a healthy savanna habitat, invasives need to be dealt with annually to reduce competition to native plant growth. A new restoration strategy is being used, and Magee Elementary utilized this tool during their May 2017 Environmental Educational Experience: GOATS! It was so successful, we'd like to bring the goats back in Fall 2017. Please consider adding to what was raised for the May 2017 visit so we can bring the goats back in the fall, and so we can fund future restoration projects at Magee such as prairie restoration (purchasing of prairie seed), brush removal and chipping. Thank you for your support!
